♪ about this release ♪

Whether through the stars, public transit, astral projection, or life itself - this four-track EP is all about travel.

> Track #1: my friend from another star

an online friend suggested i make a cute track about an alien. I drew from nostalgia for the Wii/DS era of gaming for the aural influence. I wanted to go for this introspective exploration of the cosmos - seeing all kinds of interesting sights as though from a distance.

> Track #2: before your lover takes the train

This track was inpired by the drama trope where a lead character pursues the love interest in a last-ditch effort, as the love interest is about to take the train and leave for good. The lead at first feels rejected and has given up - but after reflecting on the relationship, the lead resolves to make their intentions known even if it means refusal.

The synth-pluck instrument is a cut away to the lover's perspective; they quietly hope for the lead to show up and convince them to stay. As the track slows down right before speeding up, the lead arrives at the train station, shoving through crowds, and yelling their lover's name. The lover, already onboard, catches a glimpse of the lead at the last possible moment. The unresolved ending is meant to feel like an "oh" moment as, after the train takes off, the lover and lead lock eyes from across the platform.

> Track #3: astral projecting through an ikea

For this experimental track, I took a creative commons recording of an IKEA food court and wrote out the plucky melodies in the shape of the letters on the piano roll. The song is meant to evoke feelings of liminality in a shopping space - think Wii Shop Channel from an alternative universe!

> Track #4: cosmic elegy

This song is a more optimistic spiritual successor to event horizon; it's a reflection on life as a star is about to fall to earth. As the star faces its impending demise, it feels a deep sense of gratitude and wholeness, embracing the end just as it embraced the life that preceeded it. The sustained synth note at 1:39 is meant to evoke the sound of a flatline. As the composition steps down into lower ranges, the moment of impact hits at the very end - a sendoff for both the track itself as well as the EP.
